“Old Traffordish”

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Arsene Wenger has added a new phrase to the English Language: “Old Traffordish“. Roughly translated it refers to poor penalty decisions that go to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

“The penalty decision was ‘Old Traffordish’. There were a lot of things that happened which were beyond belief. The ref made the decision from the middle of their half, so I don’t know how. It is difficult to go home without a point when these things happen. You know what you are going to get every time you come to Old Trafford.”, Said Wenger.

The ref was Mike Dean for the record. Arsenal lost 2-1 with their own penalty claim turned down and a late goal disallowed.

Man Utd get away with it twice

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

It won’t come as a surprise to people who hate Manchester United that Vidic putting his hand into the face of Wigan’s Rodallega, as refereed by Howard Webb or the Man Utd players surrounding referee Chris Foy versus Chelsea in the Community Shield are to go unpunished. :(

Post match comment after the Champions League semi v Arsenal

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

Of course this will be biased…..

The pivotal moment was when Man Utd were 1-0 up on the day (2-0) on aggregate. Ronaldo dives and wins a free kick, John O’Shea pushes the end of the wall out of the way and Ronaldo scores a “wonder goal”. It’s all a cheat - but will you see an account of this in the press? I think not - please correct me if I’m wrong. At 1-0 down on the night Arsenal could have rallied and the result (especially with the home crowd still interested) could have been so different.

To cap it off I’m in the newsagents and I see a front page banner image on The Sun (I could be wrong to the newspaper as I cannot find it on their website, but it was one of the tabloids) of Ronaldo with arms out stretched (representing the Crucifixion) and the text “Cristiano Almighty” - an obvious reference to God or Jesus Christ status. This is just too bloody much! Religious heresy - comments please!!!!

I’m aware Man Utd fans feel aggrieved at the ref - but one player missing the final or all of them is the argument I’m putting up here.

As a foot note I read that an Arsenal fan took his own life after the match.

Sing when you’re winning v Spurs

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

Spurs are 2-0 up at Old Trafford and the place resembles a morgue. Man Utd fan went silent - no passion, no support, the fans just turn up expecting to be entertained. Enter Howard Webb and a dodgy penalty decision to get the crowd interested. Man Utd go on to win :(

Disgrace all round.

Manchester United 1 - 4 Liverpool and some amazing stuff as well!

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

Wayne rooney hated them before the match, I guess even more so now. The familiar dodgy penalty to Man Utd could not stop Liverpool. The amazing stuff included a penalty to the opposition at Old Trafford and the ref having the balls to send a Manchester United player off!!! Alan Wiley was the ref, normally we keep a record of poor refs on here, this time we will add this reference to a ref in a positive light! :)  :)

Pictures to follow!

Ipodgate

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

Ben Foster admitted using an Ipod just prior to the penalty shoot out in the Carling Cup final with Spurs to research previous penalty strategies. OK the Manc lovers will point out it is research based on information available in the public domain. Yes it is, but being allowed access during the match, surely this is wrong or unsporting at least. Where will it stop? I assume Man Utd would object if the opposition delayed every free kick while the team aligned their wall based on a review of the last 5 Ronaldo free kicks taken in a certain area of the pitch.

No action will be taken by the FA :(

Former Premier League referee Graham Poll told the Daily Mail on Monday that using iPod technology;

“had the potential to exploit a loophole in the laws which should be referred to FIFA”.

Hands up if you think this is cheating?

The Good and the bad, Man Utd v Blackburn review

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

First the good news, Man Utd have let in a Premiership goal! Shame it wasn’t with Van der Saar in the goals! Then the bad, another controvercial penalty decission not awarded against Manchester united. Sam Allardyce not to impressed with this!

“It’s difficult to play here so it’s difficult to ref here as well but they’re prepared to do the job and get it right like we are, and when they get it wrong then they need to be held accordingly to that.” Said Sam.

The referee this time being Howard Webb. Here are some pictures of the game. Comments most welcome!

Refs too friendly with Man Utd Players?

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

Tony Mowbray is irritated by referees calling top team’s players by their first names.

“It can irritate you them calling their players by the first name and trying to calm them down being pally,”  said Mowbray. and continued, “I’m not questioning the integrity of referees, yet you should always feel that there’s a level playing field.”

This was provoked after a match with, surprize surprize Manchester United and West Brom. Full details here. Rob Styles sent off West Brom player Paul Robinson, a decission which was subsequently rescinded.
