The Death of Football is pending!

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

Manchester United fans believe they are on for a sextuplet. Let me stress the point, they think they are on the verge of a 6 trophy haul, of the Charity Shield, World Club Championship, Carling Cup, FA Cup, Premiership and Champions League. Let’s nip this in the bud now!

 1. The Charity Shield must not count, how many teams fans can comment here when they have won 1 trophy (or more) in previous seasons and not declared a “double”, “treble” etc…. Please comment this is an important point if you hate Manchester United.

 2. The World Club Championship was a 6 horse race where Man Utd were entered at the last 4 stage. In principle it cannot count based on the quality of the opposition and the size of the tournament.

3. The Carling Cup (aka The League Cup) is a traditional part of the 4 trophies that would be included in the English League “Quadruple”. On this occasion Manchester United were let in at round earlier (ed - should read later) than some other Premiership teams. Akin to Formula 1 where the fastest car starts at the front of the race.

 4. The FA Cup. A tournament Manchester United have historically devalued by not participating in. I need say no more.

5. The Premiership. A straight race, should count. Come on Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Aston Villa and any other team involved in the race for top spot or playing Man United…

6. The Champions League. Again a straight race, should count. Come on Inter Milan and others.

The effect on football’s future generation(s) is pending. Kids will see Man United win all six (sic) trophies and conclude there is no other team worth supporting. The death of football is waiting…. Register your disapproval here.

Maradona helps out his Man Utd Pal!

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

Maradona gets the Chelsea players out of bed and into the cold by setting off the fire alarm in the hotel hours before the fixture at Old Trafford. Chelsea go on to lose 3-0, which I’m sure pleased Maradona’s countryman Tevez! Maradona of course is no stranger to cheating!

BGC Annual Global Charity Day

“If it had been a Manchester United player Hackett would never have done this for us.”

This is what Furguson has said in responce to John Terry’s red card being rescind by Keith Hackett, meaning Terry can play for Chelsea v Manchester United. Furguson’s remark is being looked into by the FA.

“Crisis” on the way for Man Utd?

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

The tabloids often turn a poor run of results for big clubs into a “crisis”. I guess this is in line with their perception of what is arrogantly expected. Anyway, I suspect a loss in the Champions League to Villareal (at Home) and the to Chelsea (away) in the Premiership would trigger a “crisis”, especially considering the loss against Liverpool.

In addition with the worlds financial markets in turmoil will shirt sponsors be able to continue their sponsorship???

Chelsea more hated than Man Utd?

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

John O’Shea  Claims Chelsea are more hated than Man Utd and that they play boring football.

The Sun recently reported Leeds are the most hated team, Man Utd second and Chelsea third. Manchester United, not surprizingly did not appear in the top 20 most loved clubs.

Evra charged with improper conduct

Friday, July 18th, 2008

Patrice Evra has been charged with improper conduct for his role in the “battle of the bridge”. The Manchester United defender was involved in an altercation with Chelsea groundstaff after the April 26 clash. charge. He now faces an FA ban or could be fined if found guilty. I hope it is a ban because on his salary a fine will likely to be meaningless. :(

The width of a post

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

Man Utd win the cup all but for the width of a post, a potentially phychologically scared England penalty taker, no England in Euro 2008 which is now looming……

Can anyone cheer up this blog? May be we could debate how to spell the word begining with “ph” above…..

Chelsea v Man Utd Champions League Final

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

Well the day has arrived for “the biggest game in domestic English football”. This game is the first all English final, which is to be played in Moscow. The match will last until Thursday due to the local time kick off! The English have taken the weather with them as it is currently raining! This of course may help the newly laid grass pitch which is subject to some scrutiny.

As a consequence of the “Rangers Riot” in the centre of Manchester during and after the other recent European Final there will be no public event for the fans to watch the game or even for a timely victory parade through the streets for either set of fans (note: is this still true and would anyone care to comment on this?). Of course the victory parade could be planned for London as this would be the most convenient location for both sets of fans.

For the travelling fans there is the treat of harsh treatment for public drinking / drunkenness. This is apparently so “English yobs” will not spoil Russia’s biggest sporting event since the Moscow Olympics!

Boots

The specially commissioned Man Utd kit and the latest design of football boots are said to be a popular line of merchandise with the fans.

Good luck to Chelsea.

Famous Last Words?

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

Carlos Tevez claims Man Utd have got Chelsea beaten before the Champoins League final kicks off in this article in The Sun.

Tevez said: “We are a better side than Chelsea and that is a psychological problem for them. ”

“We are favourites and everyone knows it. We are not worried by Chelsea. ” He also said.

Refs biased towards Man Utd

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

Avram Grant the Chelsea manager has suggested referees are biased towards Man Utd in this article on the BBC Sport Website. He draws reference to the sending off of Jon Mikel Obi before Man Utd went on to beat Chelsea 2-0 and a decission not to send Paul Scholes off in the title decider on the final day of the season at Wigan.

“I do not think the world is against Chelsea, or English football, but in this case there were some coincidences for Manchester United.”  Said Grant
